A major fire broke out at Amsterdam’s historic Vondelkerk church (near Vondelpark) shortly after New Year’s celebrations on January 1, 2026, causing the church tower to completely collapse. Time: Emergency calls came in around 12:45 AM local time (~5:15 AM IST), less than an hour after midnight countdowns.
• Location: Vondelkerk on Vondelstraat, a 154-year-old (built 1872) Roman Catholic church turned cultural venue; now largely destroyed.
