A patient infected with the Nipah virus was first identified near Kolkata city. Already 1 person has died due to this disease. At least 100 to 150 people are in quarantine. A nurse in the hospital is also in critical condition.
Dr. Narendra Kumar, President of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, has expressed fears that Nipah virus may spread throughout India. And since there is no effective vaccine for this virus, the situation may go out of control.
Meanwhile, various Asian countries including Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong and other countries have issued high alert at their international airports. They are screening passengers coming from India.
This year's World Cup is not only a political crisis but also a health risk. Cricket analysts fear that the virus will spread among cricketers from countries participating in the World Cup in India. In this situation, questions have been raised about how safe it is to travel to India.
Pakistan has demanded that the venue of the ICC T20 World Cup be shifted from India due to the increasing Nipah virus infection.
