Sri Lanka and Pakistan started the tournament by losing their first match in the Super Four stage. This match was very important for both the countries due to the loss of the first match. They faced each other in their second match.


Sri Lanka batted first because losing the toss. Sri Lanka did not start well. Sri Lanka suffered a batting disaster after losing 4 in the first 6 overs. Sri Lanka scored 70 runs in the first 10 overs. Kamindu Mendis scored a personal 50 runs in 44 balls. At the end of the stipulated 20 overs, Sri Lanka scored 133 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. The Sri Lankan batters could not stand up to Pakistan's bowling attack. Shaheen Afridi took the highest 3 wickets for Pakistan.


Pakistan started well while batting for a target of 133 runs. However, Pakistan lost three wickets between 40-50 and came under pressure. Sri Lankan bowler Mahesh Thiksana broke Pakistan's opening partnership. They were put under additional pressure after losing 5 wickets for 80 runs. However, in the end, Pakistan secured victory through a partnership between Hussain Talat and Mohammad Nawaz. Nawaz remained unbeaten on 38 and Talat on 32. This victory will keep Pakistan's hopes of playing in the final of the tournament alive.

Sri Lanka are almost certain to be eliminated from the tournament after losing two matches in the Super Four stage.
