Sri Lanka and Pakistan started the tournament by losing their first match in the Super Four stage. This match was very important for both the countries due to the loss of the first match. They faced each other in their second match.
Sri Lanka batted first because losing the toss. Sri Lanka did not start well. Sri Lanka suffered a batting disaster after losing 4 in the first 6 overs. Sri Lanka scored 70 runs in the first 10 overs. Kamindu Mendis scored a personal 50 runs in 44 balls. At the end of the stipulated 20 overs, Sri Lanka scored 133 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.
