Israel is reportedly secretly providing weapons and financial support to certain Palestinian militia groups. According to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), this support is intended to counter Hamas.

Several Middle Eastern media outlets have reported on this issue, citing various Israeli newspapers. International political relations analysts claim that these militia groups are helping Israel by identifying Hamas members and harassing Palestinian civilians. However, analysts also argue that these groups are unlikely to succeed against Hamas due to weak organization and widespread distrust among Palestinians.

Reports published by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, and relayed by Turkey’s Anadolu Agency and the U.S.-based Middle East Monitor, state that the IDF is providing weapons and financial support to militia groups in Gaza. According to the reports, in addition to weapons, these groups receive food, fuel transportation, and funding from the Israeli defense budget.

The reports further allege that these militia groups assist the IDF by locating Hamas members hiding in underground tunnels, arresting suspected Hamas members, providing intelligence to the Israeli army, and acting as collaborators. During Israel’s military operations in Palestine, the groups are also accused of preventing Palestinians from leaving the Gaza Valley, blocking them from reaching border areas, detaining civilians, and handing them over to the Israeli army.
